In this issue we welcome Heather Whittington back after a hiatus.  Her column, MAMA TALK was our first. In her article, "Mommy's Little Helper - Bringing Home the New Baby", Heather shares the techniques she has used with her sons to try to dispel the "green-eyed" monster that causes so much sibling rivalry.

Laurel Cossit, A GRANDMOTHER'S CIRCLE, is back with a new article, "Baby Wearing for the Uninitiated....
Grandparents,That Is"

Here she gives us a quick history of baby wearing and why it's so great for baby and parents.

Does your young baby suffer from GER (reflux)?

Look for a new article on this subject in September by pediatrician, Dr. Sue Kressly.  In addtion, we will also have an article (later in the month) by a young mom who struggles with her baby's reflux.

Please go to www.babymetv.com to see the full articles in this newsletter as well as others you might have missed.

I love this picture because it shows how happy and how much fun my baby had when I took him to swim for the first time. Motherhood makes me experience the unconditional love you can have for another person. I'm so happy just to see he's happy.

Susan Peterson
Oxford, MS

This is one of my favorite pictures of Haley and I. It was an impromptu photo taken one of the first "Hot" Mississippi Saturdays. I love this photo because It captured us off guard but you can still see the love I feel for Haley and she feels for me!

I love this picture because it shows how much fun we have together! Being a mom is way harder than I expected, but once I learned how to go at my sons pace our lives filled with joy and I wouldn't have it any other way.

New Castle, DE

I love this photo of me and my son, because a month earlier I had my daughter and my son was a little jealous, and very clingy to daddy. He wouldn't hug me or sit with me at all. I was laying on the floor playing with out family dog and my son walked over, climbed on my back and gave me that big ole hug you see in the picture. Its a great memory for me and I was so happy to have my hug obsessed little boy back!

Collette Macomb Portland,OR

This is a picture of my 7 month old son Cole & myself (with grammy helping in the background). We had just poured a new concrete step complete with chubby baby feet. This was the first time he had his feet in anything squishy. I absolutely love the way he is looking to me to insure that everything is okay.  In the end he decided he liked the feeling of this between his toes...he's all boy!

Rachel Wolf Ft. Lewis, WA

I love the way my daughter's face looks so innocent and pure in this picture. It reminds me of the recent times it was just the two of us for 15 months while my husband was deployed.  She is my baby, my joy, my everything!

Kate Lester - Wellington,FL

After my husband and I separated, I wanted a "new" family picture.  This photo was taken at a birthday party.  Life has changed, but being surrounded by the 2 children I love most in the world is the best "mommy and me" photo I could ever dream of.

I can still hear her giggling whenever I see this photo.  She loves to laugh and she's always smiling.  She thinks I'm the funniest person ever.  I think she's the silliest.  this moment is one of many smiles.  The feeling I get when she looks at me will never fade.

There is no bond as beautiful as the one between a mother and her child.  My daughter, Amaya Juliet, recently turned two and already demonstrates her love for nature and the outdoors.  This common joy that we share will continue bringing us closer throughout her childhood and our life together.
LAUREL HEADSHOTRhianna Clark  Philadelphia, PA
This is a perfect picture of my two girls and me.  My youngest looks up to older sister and ALWAYS watching what se is going to do next.  My oldest is my "little me".  Not only my daughter, but my best friend.  We are like a chain linked together, one piece holding the other.  Without one another we would just fall to pieces.  My daughers are a blessing, little ones to watch grow up and become just like me!

Sophia Rodriguez   Mesa, AZ

This is my favorite pic ever.  She warms my eart and always puts a smile on my face when she tells me she loves me.  But with those "ducky" lips she has me melting in her hands!

I love this photo because this was the only picture we took together on Mother's Day.  It's even more special to me because we didn't spend last Mother's Day together.  It also symbolizes our close bond and our mother-daughter relationship.

LAUREL HEADSHOTTalis Wiley Kannapolis, NC

I chose this picture because my daughter and I weren't doing anything special, just laying on the floor, being silly and we had the best time!.  I think it shows that no matter where we are, we will have fun just being together.

This picture to me shows how close we are as a family. And that we love and adore each other.  I could never imagine my life without my beautiful, funny, strong, independent little boys. No matter what, they will always be winners in my heart!

Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone...but still miraculously my own!  Never forget for a single minute: you didn't grow under my heart, but IN IT!.  Our first picture together.  Mommy Katrina and baby Victoria from China.

Mommy's Little Helper... Bringing the New Baby Home

Have you just given birth? Are you expecting? Here are some great tips and ideas to help smooth the transition for your first and or subsequent children when bringing home a new baby. Your best bet if you're still pregnant is to start talking
to your existing child or children about what a great big brother or big sister they are going to be.

Start by looking at some of your pregnancy books and show your child what is going to be happening to Mommy's body and explain that there is a baby growing in there. Explain to them how things will change but focus on the positive changes. Now is not the time to tell them they will soon be sharing all their toys!

A GRANDMOTHER'S CIRCLE
    by Laurel Cossit

Laurel is a new grandmother of Aidan, born February 2nd. She has been a registered nurse since 1969.  She earned her BA in Cognitive Science
                      from SUNY Buffalo in 2002.

 BABY WEARING FOR THE UNINITIATED...
Grandparents, that is

When my daughter announced her pregnancy she said that she would like to have some slings. Ok. Slings. How complicated can that be? Those of us who are boomer grandparents will probably have had those carrier thingies that were available back in the '70's. They were either front packs or big metal-framed backpacks that, at least in my experience, were complicated and uncomfortable for the wearer and for the kid. Any shift in the child's weight was accompanied by the sensation that the kid was going to fall out, suffer horrid things and it would be entirely your fault. Surely our parents taught us that babies belong safely in their carriages or cribs? Still, I think some of us sensed that the more stimulation a child has, the better for the child's social and emotional development. Or, just maybe, we enjoyed the sensation of snuggling with them and hesitated to let them "cry it out."

In the meanwhile, moms from cultures different from ours and all over the planet have safely worn their infant or toddler offspring since cave times. I don't know that they were subjected to "double blind" studies nor did they analyze what would happen if they didn't wear the kid. They just did it.
